Dear Alex, here is the Australasian eResearch Newsletter.
Australasian eResearch Newsletter - November 2024
Message from AeRO:

All indications are that the 2024 eResearch-Australasia Conference, held at Albert Park in Melbourne from 28-Oct to 1-Nov, was a great success!  Over 600 delegates attended from Australia and New Zealand and from a few more far-flung places, and were rewarded with a full and rich program, stimulating Keynotes, and vigorous discussion at Birds-of-a-Feather sessions.  Lots of informal (but valuable!) networking took place as well.

Remember to provide feedback via the survey sent out by Conference Design (at https://cdesign.eventsair.com/2024eresearch/delegate-survey/Survey/Register), and you can still check out the program at https://conference.eresearch.edu.au/program/

The AeRO AGM was held at the Conference, with the appointment of a new Committee – see article in the body of this Newsletter.

A Special Conference Reflections edition of this Newsletter will be sent out in a couple of days – look out for it, and reflect yourselves on how much you learnt or benefited from this year’s Conference (next one in Brisbane, 20 to 24-Oct-25).

Alex Reid, Newsletter Editor & eRA Program Committee member.

AeRO AGM Outcome
The AeRO AGM was held at the Conference, on 30-Oct-24.  22 people were present, representing 13 member organisations.  A new Committee was elected, the finances were reviewed (in a healthy state), and ideas were aired for developing a plan for activities in 2025, noting that the Website needs a full redesign and being brought up to date (https://aero.edu.au/).  The new Committee will draft a plan of activities, along with an accompanying budget, which will be a high priority task.

The new Committee comprises (L to R in above photo):  Gareth Williams (Treasurer), Luc Betbeder-Matibet (President), Aditi Subramanya (Vice-President), David Abramson (immediate past-President), Ryan Fraser (Secretary).
How to Simplify Research Data Transfers with Globus: A Guide from eResearch 2024
AARNet’s hands-on Globus workshop at the eResearch Australasia 2024 Conference provided researchers with essential skills in data transfer, workflow automation, and secure collaboration.

Participants engaged in hands-on exercises to explore efficient, reliable methods for transferring large datasets across systems.  The interactive workshop format allowed them to test solutions in real time, with AARNet experts available to assist with challenges as they arose.

Streamlining Data Sharing for Medical Research with AARNet FileSender
Researchers at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) Microscopy facility integrated FileSender to enable secure and efficient data sharing for enhanced collaboration with research institutions and commercial partners for vital medical research projects.

Thanks to TRI’s connection to AARNet’s high-speed network, integrating FileSender was seamless.  The web-based application is not only an intuitive and reliable data movement tool, but also ensures the security of research data through robust encryption protocols and access controls.
