Dear Alex, here is the Australasian eResearch Newsletter.
Australasian eResearch Newsletter - May 2024
Message from AeRO:

There is plenty happening across the eResearch Sector in the coming months, some generalised, some more specific in their reach.

In the case of AeRO, we are delighted to announce the next AeRO Forum, which will take place as part of the CAUDIT Communities Conference at Latrobe University in Melbourne, on 26 July.  It will focus upon how research groups and facilities are managing data movement and storage.

The showcase event for AeRO of course is the annual eResearch-Australasia Conference, to be held this year in Melbourne, from 28 October to 1 November.  Please note that submissions for all categories of presentation (apart from Posters) close on 31 May, so do move quickly if you haven’t already made a submission.

Alex Reid, Editor.

Sharing Is Caring: Enabling Sharing of Research Data:  28-May
Health information is a valuable resource, and a lot of clinical trials are publicly funded, so re-using data provides opportunities to ‘get more’ from research.

At this webinar, you will also hear about national Health Studies Australian National Data Asset (HeSANDA) activity and its role in helping to support more sharing of clinical trial data for secondary use.  You’ll also learn about research on current data sharing intentions and practices among researchers, and there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

When/Where:  28 May, 3-4.30 pm AEST, online

More information and to register:  https://ardc.edu.au/event/sharing-is-caring-enabling-sharing-of-research-data/.

Celebrating 15 Years of FileSender: Powering Research with Secure File Sharing
FileSender is a web-based application that allows users to send large files securely and easily over the internet.  What sets it apart from many other file-sharing services is its ability to handle extremely large files, often up to thousands of gigabytes, with the added advantage of encryption protocols, ensuring that files remain confidential during transit.

As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of FileSender, AARNet acknowledge the contributions of everyone who has supported the project over the years.

Data Without Borders: the Role of Globus in International Genome Research
Genetics technical specialists at the Biomolecular Resource Facility (BRF) are using the Globus data movement service through AARNet to share huge datasets with national and international collaborators.

Globus allows researchers to transfer research data efficiently and securely between systems anywhere in the world, making it easy to collaborate and share large-scale datasets across organisational boundaries.

BRF transfers genomic data from their instruments to NCI’s Gadi supercomputer, where it is then processed and stored for sharing with research collaborators.
