AIO Infrastructure Initiative for Social Data and Digital Platform Research
ARDC has announced the Australian Internet Observatory (AIO), a major new research infrastructure initiative that will open up the ‘black box’ of digital platforms and their algorithms.

The Australian Internet Observatory will develop the tools and capabilities required to gather and analyse online user experience data, algorithms, and interactions.  It will support innovative approaches to the collection and analysis of digital social data and internet platforms and the analytical tools and governance required to support cutting-edge research on social, economic, health and environmental issues.

Empowering HASS Research Through The Carpentries Training
AARNet and the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) recently collaborated to host a global Carpentries Instructor Training workshop aimed at providing HASS researchers with essential coding and data science skills, further enhancing the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA) project.

The Carpentries is an international organisation dedicated to teaching foundational coding and data science skills to researchers worldwide.  It fosters an inclusive and diverse community of learners and instructors, assisting researchers and research support professionals without technical or computational backgrounds.  This workshop, held in May, included participants from Australia, USA, Canada and Kenya.

Say Hello to the New AARNet FileSender
AARNet has launched FileSender V3.0, featuring a revamped user interface (UI) and significant improvements to usability and workflow.  This follows AARNet FileSender’s transition to a standalone service earlier this year.

FileSender is a web-based application which can securely and efficiently transfer large files over the internet.  Designed for the academic and research communities, it offers a user-friendly interface and can handle extremely large files, often up to thousands of gigabytes, with robust encryption ensuring secure transfers.

AARNet offers FileSender in Australia at no cost to all institutions affiliated with the Australian Access Federation (AAF).
