Dear Alex, here is the National eResearch Newsletter.
National eResearch Newsletter - February 2022
Message from AeRO:

AeRO has always played a pivotal collaborative role within the eResearch sector.  This year, we’re seeking to extend our engagement with a broader audience via the eResearch conference, AeRO Forum and other activities.  Last year we ran the first AeRO grants program in collaboration with a commercial partner, and discussions are underway to offer a similar program in 2022.

To kick-off the New Year, we’re rebooting the AeRO Jobs Board, and extend an open invitation to share upcoming opportunities via this platform.

To help make membership more accessible, we’re also reviewing our membership model and hope to share more details with you soon.

In the meantime, if you’re interested in collaborating with AeRO on activities, events or work programs, feel free to contact me directly, at loretta@aero.edu.au.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead for eResearch!

Kind regards, Loretta Davis, AeRO Executive Officer.

NCRIS: The Power Behind Australia’s Science
Behind the national and international headlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Australian 2019 bushfires, there is a network of research enablers supporting high-impact, nationally significant research.  This network of facilities make up the NCRIS facilities – funded through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy – and since 2004 they have enabled a wealth of research excellence, making it both headline-worthy and a critical pillar of the Australian economy.

A new report highlights the more than 7 dollars of value to come from each dollar invested by the government into NCRIS facilities.  Read the whole report and more here: https://nci.org.au/news-events/news/ncris-power-behind-australias-science.
NCI’s New Flexible Adapter Scheme
In response to demand for a scheme that allows for flexible access to high-performance computing and cloud, NCI is launching a new merit-based access scheme.  The new Adapter Scheme will facilitate access to data, enable high-throughput computing, and support other new and emerging ways of engaging with Tier-1 high-performance computing and high-performance data resources.  Quarterly allocations of up to 500 KSU to be used across NCI’s HPC, cloud and data environments will be available through this scheme.

Applications will open very soon, the NCI website will have all the details and information about eligibility and how to apply: https://nci.org.au/users/how-access-nci/adapter-scheme.
Survey: What Bioinformatics Training Do You Need?
The national Bioinformatics Training Cooperative offers free online training events.  They want to know which skills and topics would help life scientists and bioinformaticians deliver their best research in 2022.

Please share your thoughts via the short 10-minute survey:  https://tinyurl.com/bioinf-training-needs.
eResearch Program Committee – Call for EOIs
The eResearch Australasia Conference Program Committee plays an important role in shaping the eResearch Conference.  Due to staff changes within the sector, we’re seeking expressions of interested for new committee members.  Members don’t need to be AeRO members, and we meet each month via Zoom.  Members assist with submission reviews and other activities.
